Now in their third year, the prestigious awards - taking place as a curtain-raiser to Wales Tourism Week - attracted an array of excellent entries from every aspect of the Pembrokeshire visitor trade sector.

Eating out and day out experiences; accommodation, teamwork, marketing and sustainability were amongst aspects came under the scrutiny from independent judges for the 12 different categories.

For the first time in the three-year history of the event, Gold, Silver and Bronze accolades were introduced in recognition of the marketing opportunites created by the awards.

"We were delighted not just with the number of nominations and entries, but also the high quality of the applications," said Alison Belton, chief executive of Pembrokeshire Tourism, which now has over 570 members.

"We already know that Pembrokeshire leads from the front -  as proved by the county's success in the National Tourism Awards 2010, and by our coastline being named the second best in the world by National Geographic Magazine."

And that special coastline was once again up there with the winners at Friday's awards, when the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority's 'day out on the coast path' won Gold in the Best Day Out category.

One business which makes the most of  Pembrokeshire's cliffs and inlets is Celtic Quest Coasteering, which scooped a Gold for its marketing, as well as Silver and Bronze in other categories.

Said owner Cleopatra Browne: "Given the strength of the competition, we were astonished to get the hat-trick. We're now keener than ever to get our teeth into the 2011 season."

The black tie awards ceremony at Kiln Park, Tenby, was supported by a number of sponsors, including the Western Telegraph which sponsored the Gold award trophies from Steve Robinson Glass, Solva.

Wales Tourism Alliance chairman Chris Osborne of Tenby and Visit Wales tourism and marketing director, Jonathan Jones, congratulated the finalists on their achievements.

Said Pembrokeshire Tourism chairman Huw Pendleton: "The night was a huge success and really set a high-level tone for Wales Tourism Week."
