Experience a holiday to remember in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire Tourism - Friday, July 07, 2017
Get out and get active on your summer holiday in Pembrokeshire this year! If the family have had enough of sand in the sandwiches or want a change from walking along the coast path, how about trying out some new activities? From boat trips to climbing, riding to karting, there’s plenty on offer in Pembrokeshire this summer, so join us as we go on a tour of some the different things you can do during your holiday this year!
From kitesurfing to stand-up paddle boarding, and plenty more in between, The Big Blue Experience in Newgale has a wide range of activities to keep everyone active. Whether you’re a complete beginner, or a more experienced surfer, the team here have experienced instructors able to cater for individuals, families and groups. Not got a wet suit or surfboard? No problem! The shop offers a wide range of equipment for hire or purchase – who knows, maybe you’ll find a new hobby after giving one of the many activities on offer a try.

Explore the northern Pembrokeshire Coastline from a different perspective with the team at TYF. Coasteering (involves a mix of rock ‘scrambling’ and jumping into the sea), kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding all give you an opportunity to see the majesty and magnificence of the coastline up close. If you thought the view was good from the coast path, you’ll see a whole new view from the sea. Sessions are easy to book on the website, and again whether you are a beginner or coming back for another go, the staff team will take you through all you need to know.

Go on a bear hunt through the woods, play a round of Frisbee Golf then explore the castle! Yes, this a farm with a difference (well quite a few really!) and offers a great day out for the family. Say hello to the friendly pigs, cows and donkeys, and of course the chickens and rabbits, then play on the beach and have a pedal go-kart race. Located just off the A40 near Slebech, Clerkenhill Farm is an ideal day out for younger families (and the young at heart).

If fishing or diving is your thing, then the Celtic Wildcat could be just the job for a great day out around the waters of Pembrokeshire. Offering a range of trips and experiences aboard the 36 foot catamaran, the team at Celtic Wildcat can help make it a day to remember. Alternatively, if you’d prefer a more relaxed day seeing the scenery and birdwatching around some of the islands, just get in touch and create the perfect outing for you, your friends and family.

Play a round of golf in this beautiful setting with views of Tenby, Carmarthen Bay and the Ritec Valley! Treflyone offers a unique golfing experience in the rolling parkland countryside just outside Tenby, and when the action is over on the course, you can enjoy the delights of the restaurant and bar, all sharing the same stunning views and peaceful atmosphere.

There’s something quite striking about watching horses on a beach, and here at East Nolton Riding Stables, you can be part of it! With a choice of beach or countryside rides and over 60 horses and ponies, the team can offer something for everyone. Ride across the beach at Druidstone Haven, or trek through the fields and countryside overlooking St Brides Bay. As an added extra, you can also experience Zorbing and a Segway course here too!

Settle the debate on who’s turn it is to cook dinner with a race! This 500m outdoor karting track located 5 miles outside Tenby is great spot to test out those karting skills and learn more about the sport too. Arrive and drive, or book a group session, and enjoy a great day out for the family! Drivers must be at least 8 years old and 1.35m tall (juniors to be accompanied by an adult).

Challenge the family to some laser combat at Battlefield Live this summer! The purpose built, jungle themed combat zone offers much more than just a run around in the woods. With huts, forts, bases and more to defend and hide in, you’ll be testing out your team skills as well as having lots of fun. Camouflage kit and infra-red gaming technology are supplied (no projectiles so no bruises!), creating an experience to remember for individuals, groups and families alike.

Coasteering, Sea Kayaking, Walking and Team Challenges are just some of the activities on offer at Preseli Venture. Regardless of how you choose to explore the coast and countryside of the north of the county, the team here can help you plan your day (or half day) to make sure you get the most out of it! With the main centre located just 10 minutes walk from the beach, you can also enjoy some sea swimming and sandcastle building too!

Rock hopping, adventure sea swimming, cliff jumping and ‘toilet flushing’ are all part of the fun at Celtic Quest Coasteering (check out the website for more on the toilet flushing!). The experienced and knowledgeable guides will get you kitted out for a water based experience that will keep everyone entertained. Start out with a gentle introduction to the activity in the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy, before venturing out around the coastline to experience the full on coasteering ‘buzz’.

Fancy getting up close to the towering rocks and cliffs of Pembrokeshire? Then have a go at climbing! Rock Up Climbing will show you the ropes (groan…) and introduce you to the sport, or if you’re already familiar with climbing they can provide guided sessions for you and your family or group. Simply get in touch, decide where you’re going to go and book, then rock up!

Have a go at throwing a pot or create a model by hand here at Wolfscastle Pottery. Get creative and paint a piece to mark the holiday or another special occasion, or make a special memento with the family. If you book this activity early on in your week here, you can collect your pot before you go home too!

Head out towards some of the islands off the Pembrokeshire Coast with the Voyages of Discovery team this summer. Not only will you get to see the features of Ramsey, Skomer and Grassholm, you might even get to see some puffins, dolphins, whales and shearwaters! Different packages are available enabling everyone from babes in arms upwards to get involved and enjoy a day out with a difference.

You may have heard the term ‘foraging’ before, but if you’re not really sure what it’s all about, Wild About Pembrokeshire can give you a great insight! Explore the countryside and coastline on their guided walks, find out more about the different plants and seaweeds, their uses and maybe taste some too. With a range of courses available to book, and the option to create a bespoke day out too, you’ll certainly find out more about the ‘wild’ side of Pembrokeshire.

We know that kids can sometimes be bouncing off the walls during the summer holidays, and here at Hangar 5 they can do it properly! Based on the edge of Withybush Airfield, Haverfordwest, wall to wall trampolines, basketball hoops and more provide a great way to bounce off some of that energy for all the family (not just the kids). With a soft play area and café too, there’s something for all the family (booking required for the trampoline arena).

This indoor climbing centre located on Castle Beach, Tenby (yes it’s an old lifeboat station!) offers an opportunity to have a go at bouldering and climbing whatever the weather. With taster sessions available as well as longer introduction to climbing courses, the team at the Overhang have everything you need to give you a great climbing experience. Ritec Valley Quad Bikes Track or trail? Geared or automatic quad bike? Whatever your preference,

Just outside Tenby have a great range of options for you! Suitable for ages 6 upwards, the team here can provide activities for individual riders through to group bookings, all overseen by experienced instructors. With a choice of flat tracks or more challenging trail rides you can have a day of adrenalin fueld excitement for beginners and advanced riders all in one go.

Surf, kayak, canoe or coasteering with the team at The Real Adventure Company. Have a half-day session or book a full day out, exploring the coastline and waters of Pembrokeshire with experienced instructors tailoring the activities to your level. All you need is your swimwear, a towel and some old trainers, the team will supply all required kit, and can cater for individuals, groups and families too.

Former UK captain, Welsh champion and Welsh national surf coach Pete Bounds has been teaching everyone from beginners through to world champion surfers since 1984 and provides quality tuition in a fun, safe, friendly coaching environment.
